TED: The Greatest Platform Worth Sharing

SOURCE: http://www.onlineclasses.org/2012/11/05/ted-talks/

No one can deny that TED.com is one of the most successful and iconic idea-sharing platforms online. Si

nce 2006, TED Talk videos have racked up over 800 million views. And it’s no surprise these videos went viral; with names like Steve Jobs, Jane Goodall, Sergey Brin and Bill Clinton, the roster of TED speakers reads like a best-in-class review of today’s living scientists, educators and humanitarians. And now, six years after uploading its first video, TED.com is innovating online education again.

A new site,TED-ed.com now provides a platform for teachers and students to share video lessons. Teachers can modify, or “flip”, the videos to make them more relevant to their own lessons and use the site’s test and project writing tools to measure comprehension. The site continues to build its video lesson library by bringing user-nominated educators and animators together to create multimedia videos on everything from the mathematical genius of Archimedes to the significance of the Higgs-Boson particle discovery. Check out the graphic below to understand how we all became TED heads and why TED.com is still one of the greatest places to learn online.

Foto8 Talk: Mike Seaborne

To coincide with his exhibition at Foto8, Mike Seaborne will give an illustrated talk about his urban landscape work with particular reference to the exhibition London: Landscapes in Transition. This will be followed by a Q&A session a guided tour of the exhibition.

Mike Seaborne began photographing London in 1979 when he was appointed Curator of Photographs at the Museum of London. Since then he has explored much of the capital and has completed many projects for the museum and independently. In 1986 he began a long-term landscape project recording deindustrialisation, changing patterns of land use and new city infrastructures. He has concentrated on using medium and large-format cameras to reveal the minutiae of his subjects and, while embracing digital technology, his finished work retains obvious links with that of earlier practitioners whose aim was to assemble visual collections of aspects of the city that might soon be lost or have simply been overlooked or forgotten.

Entry is free but places must be reserved by following the link below.
